Cinco de Mayo

As every American schoolchild knows, tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo. The name comes from the Finnish meaning, literally, "sinkful of mayonnaise" and it celebrates the heritage of white Protestants around the world. In the evening, families of WASPs will gather for the traditional meal of tea and Fluffernutter sandwiches before breaking out the Pat Boone records.

Many people do not realize that the holiday actually started in Canada, where it was originally a protest against immigration from Eastern Europe. Back then, it was called "Cinco de Magyar" (literally, "bucketful of Hungarians") and it was celebrated on October 17th.

Without kidding in the least, we'll have to live in fear of all the guns going off this weekend. Seriously, why do they have to shoot guns off into the air.

I guess Jackson and Katie are safe. Her room and our guest room are off the front of the house. Circy and I, on the otherhand, may want to sleep on the couch this weekend.

Isn't that, uh, illegal? I would think that the shells come down with the same velocity at which they went up.

Tomorrow is also Buddha's Birthday, which was originally called "Christmas" and celebrated in December.

Great, now we'll have Latino's and Buddhists shooting guns off in the neighborhood next to ours...

If every one stereotype that New Yorkers have of the south was true, it's regarding southerners and their guns. I could leave for lunch and legally purchase a hand gun as easy as picking up a Big Mac at the drive thru.

Circy's pig shooting incident is accurate as well. Man, a pig getting shot makes an awful sound.

So, I'm confused - all the shooting, is it the white southerners shooting the illegal mexican immigrants?

Either way, I'll be bummed if you're serious about not hangin' in the pavillion tomorrow night - I loves the pavillion....almost as much as BBQ pork.

Jackson -

They are not illegal! They are "undocumented."

There are no laws against being in this country without documents, are there?

Dave, just once I want to see you ask someone if there papers are in order.

Their. It's THEIR!

DAMMIT.

No, white rednecks shoot their guns in the air on Confederate Memorial Day (yes, that is a recognized state holiday here). This weekend, it'll be the Latino community shooting guns into the air. I'm sure the Buddhists will be out there too, but they'll just blame the Latinos.

We'll venture cautiously out to the pavillion for sure. If the shit gets hectic we'll adjust the plan.

Now on a serious note, my wife just called and informed me that the front of our subdivision has been tagged by the f**king MX3 gang again, so I have to call Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful to report it.

But we don't have any problems here with "undocumented" immigrants here in the ATL...
