Your Daily Who Moment

And now, your daily Who Moment

I'm convinced Pete chose this as an opener just to piss Daltrey off.

"Hey Roger, I've got a brilliant idea."

"What's that, then, Pete?"

"Let's open with a song where John sings lead and I play a long guitar solo so you can stand doing nothing for the first five minutes of every show!"

My favorite Who record was never actually released - 'Who Cares?'

Actually I like The Who. I love 'A Quick One While He's Away' from the Stones Rock n Roll Circus thing.

Sometimes I love the Who, sometimes I don't, it's weird. But when the Who gets me they REALLY get me and I'm blown away. Even songs I've heard a million times, sometimes I hear them and I'm floored.

Maybe it was growing up in the classic rock wasteland of CT that's affected my views. Dave.. what do these letters mean to you?

How 'bout this:

"The Doors are the worst band in the history of music."

Discuss.

"Who Cares?" is a f'ing hilarious name for a Who record, by the way.

99 ROCK W-P-L-R NEW HAVEN

While Pete Townshend is my personal hero, I can admit that The Who were definitely a hit or miss band. At their best, they were the best. At their worst, you get stuff like "Did You Steal My Money?" and "Eminence Front." Despite the raves it gets for being a "personal" record, I still think "Who by Numbers" is pretty weak.

I guess this reflects Pete's ambivalence towards the band. It was only great when he wanted it to be great.

They also seemed uniquely adept at tarnishing their legacy.

I've said his drunkenly to Dave once before, but I've always liked Eminence Front (it's a put on!).

But how can you go wrong with the first 5-6 singles by The Who? Chockablock rock!

I wasn't going to go where I'm about to go....I was content to leave it with the joke and the back handed compliment, but since everybody else ventured deeper...

For me The Who are like the Kinks. A shit-ton of hits and a goodly amount of crap. Most records barely break even. A few records are brilliant straight through.

I like '...By Numbers' a lot. It has some crap, but the good stuff is so earnest and just so damn good. I think Townsend should have saved 'Long Live Rock' for that record instead of his solo record. Had he done that, which he could have, '...By Numbers' would be mentioned in the same breath as 'Quad' and '....Next'.
