His first year was an unmitigated disaster and he had almost managed to make himself a complete lame duck governor. That's no small feat.
But a prostitution ring??
I think it is safe to say that he has managed, in one year, to firmly secure a legacy as one of the worst Governors of New York in modern history.
UPDATE: He's gone. Jeebus.

People do stupid shit. Elliot was unbelievably stupid. He sure paid a lot for sex, the largest amount went to fucking himself.
All true, but Spitzer's biggest mistake was being a giant asshole. When he was caught, he had literally no allies. Even Democrats hated him. The prostitution was the bullet that killed him, but he had already shown himself to be spectacularly inept at being Governor during his first 12 months. And that was because he bullied everybody and people don't take kindly to that.
