This is reminding me of the whole "innocent contractors killed when the 2nd Death Star was blown up while still under construction" discussion in "Clerks."
Vader is a former employee/slave. Like Andrew Carnegie, he probably had mixed feelings about the labor/capital relationship because he came from a working-class background.
He is also probably ashamed of his common roots and over-compensates by killing for sport.
I've often thought about the parallels between Darth Vader and Andrew Carnegie.
However, as I don't consider Episodes 1-3 to be legitimate parts of the Star Wars story, I am not certain Vader was ever a slave.... except to the Dark Side!

Damn. I should really get back to work. So much to read.
The whole exhaust port thing seems like a pretty big flaw to me, by the way. I hope an engineer got fired for that one.
No way. Those guys were totally unionized. They contributed huge amounts to Tarkin's re-election campaign on Tantive V.
Oh my God, I am such a loser.
I think Vader would be the ultimate Union-buster.

Are we losers? I don't know. Geeks, sure.
